Do your liver good and drink a bitter tea. The liver is the major cleansing organ, with 2 different phases of detox it cleans the blood of all chemicals and metabolites. This, my favorite organ, responds to sour and bitter meaning that bile is produced in the presence of sour/bitter drinks such as lemon, dandelion and chicory. When bile is produced we break down fats and have bowel moments. For this reason hot lemon water is the ideal drink first the in the morning, on an empty stomach, after having fasted for 8 or so hours. Other foods good for the liver are dark leafy greens, brown rice, green apples, carrots, grapefruit and beet root. Herbs for the liver are yellow dock, dandelion and milk thistle. Cleansing the liver can help discard metabolic debris such as old hormones, toxins from food, alcohol and meds in the blood. As we age and are exposed to more and more toxins, our liver has to work harder to do the same cleaning it once did efficiently. This is why we detox, to keep the liver spry, and keep the body youthful. so get going.
