Five numbered codes beginning with the number 9 indicates organically raised without herbicides, fungicides, insecticides (certified according to the USDA and the Organic Trade Association- US, Mexico and Canada). If it begins with the number 8, watch out. It’s Genetically modified! Eat at your own risk. Four numbers beginning with a 3 or 4 represent your standard conventionally-raised-pesticides-treated fare.
