Stay hydrated even more this summer with a range of electrolytes. The primary ions of electrolytes, sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), chloride (Cl-), phosphate (PO43-), and hydrogen carbonate (HCO3-) can be lost due to excess coffee, alcohol, soda water/pop and bouts of diarrhea, vomiting and perspiration, causing a state of dehydration.

Instead of choosing the overly-sweet synthetic energy drinks/Gatorade, source your ‘lytes from homemade Labour-aid: 1.5-2 litres of water, juice of 3 limes, 1 lemon, 1 tbsp of dark maple syrup, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp baking soda.  Without the fuss, cut out the food ingredients and stick to the third world dehydration recipe: 1 tsp sugar, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp baking soda to a litre of water….or carry alfalfa tea in a thermos.
