leave Rheum or room for Rheum.  Rhubarb (rheum officionalis and other varieties) is a member of the buckwheat/kasha family a gluten-free gain unrelated to wheat. With its bitter taste and toxic leaves this native plant has many benefits ranging from being an environmental neutralizer of chlorohydrocarbons that wreck the ozone layer, to rich in vitamin C and fiber.  Small amounts of the dried root are even used as a laxative in Chinese herbal medicine.  It does contain a rather indigestible source of calcium that may or may not be absorbed.  It is also on the list of foods to watch in case of kidney stones and osteoporosis.
