millie says take it easy to a point

September 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

big thanks to Damian Rogers for the fantastic plug for “millie says take it easy” in this week’s Eye Weekly. mild panic crept in at the thought of inheriting some rep for ‘not practicing what I preach’ while she outed me in quotations for eating ‘anything’ including coffee, chips and meat. so before the rumour spreads that I have a crap diet, let me reassure the quality of my daily which provides consistent nutritional support for the occasional junk. Here is my 2 day diet recall to unveil my nutritional secrets (in addition to cleansing which include)sticking to the following rules: three regular home-made meals from scratch each day, of course occasional restaurant, very rare fast food, most important meal-breakfast when I wake-, quality protein at every meal (eggs, beans, legumes, sprouts, fish, meat, healthy ferments, algae and seaweed), 5-7 servings of fresh vegetables and fruit per day, raw nuts and seeds, very little added sugar, desert when it’s irresistible.

today lunch: two boiled organic eggs, 3 homemade pickles, 3 pieces of sunflower and oats Ryvita, 1 apple, 1 banana.
morning break: tall americano with cream
breakfast: soft boiled organic tofu on corn bread, lactantia butter, homemade blueberry and blackberry jam, 2 purples plums
1/2 litre water so far.

Last night dinner: dinner at Shoshana MacKay’s, organic corn on the cob with butter, swiss chard from her garden with nuts, roasted new potatoes, carrots, onions and parsnips, 2 glasses of red wine, 1 glass white wine (note all vegetable dinner)
afternoon snack: handful of raw pecans
lunch: steamed tofu with miso and tahini dressing, 2 homemade pickles, 2 purples plums
morning snack: 4 squares dark chocolate with fruit and nuts, single americano with cream.
breakfast: soaked cranberries, raisins and flax seeds, cooked with whole grain cereal, topped with wheat germ. organic whole milk. green tea.
2.5 litres of water.

millie says switch it up!

September 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

i’m bringing back my sports lingo from the days when I was an outright fanatic, rather than the closet-jock I am now for the purpose of pointing out the simple idea that when things aren’t working, move out from under yourself.  when one feels caught by inertia it’s time to make some changes.  being creatures of habit we usually respond in a consistent way during times of crisis or stress only to feel stuck, bored or even depressed.  if this sounds familiar then I put you to the test to do the opposite.  use some rigor in your life, or lose the rigor if it’s more fitting.  if running isn’t working then stay, if staying is making you miserable then go, staying in bed is no longer fun then get up! and if working too hard or not working enough is getting to you then flip 180 to see the other side of the coin.

sometimes allowing the actions to change can change your perspective, so go ahead,  switch it up!
