millie says live in your body

October 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

since you’re living in your body anyway, give it a work out.  an invisible work out includes calisthenics..the old fashion term for using your body’s own ability to tense at will, resist itself and improve strength.  for instance, while waiting in line at the coffee shop, pull in and up the abdominals muscles.  immediately you be challenged to breath a full abdominal breath against resistance, strengthening the abs even more, like a natural tummy tuck, you tuck your tummy.  this also corrects posture causing you to pull shoulders back and down reducing strain on the lower back. fait accomplis is to do this for 10 minutes and day, then work on the glutes when in line at the movie store.  building lean muscle mass in this way allows your body to burn fuel more efficiently, raising metabolism and lowering fat to muscle ratio, especially for those who never exercised much as kids.  live in your body.

millie says preserve the fruit

October 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

ever see the eugene levy skit on sctv where plays the “used fruit salesman”?  it’s the best.  he’s dressed to the hilt in his plaid pant suit ready to make a mint off some cheaply acquired goods like brussel sprouts that had fallen off the truck onto the side of the road, lemons just about to turn to green and grey dust.   take action in your own fridge so that peels and skin are the only parts added to your compost bin.  afterall, why toss when you can freeze an entire grapefruit, thaw it in the fridge and eat it as if NOTHING ever happened.

what millie says about laryngitis

October 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

laryngitis is not congenital, genetic nor contagious, though I clarify this last point; if the voice loss has a viral or bacterial cause then certainly that can be transmitted through respiratory droplets, sputum or achoo.   as for it being congenital or genetic can’t say really, but some people have the propensity for it while others do not.  things that bring it on in addition to airborn microbes are yelling or singing Sinead O’Connor, Prince and G’N'R songs, smoking cigarettes-yes even 1 or 2, drinking campari and soda, wine and beer, catching a chill at 4 am on a cold night while riding your bike or walking and being exposed to the happy stress of a sudden move or change in life direction.  if any or all of these things have brought you to a vocal halt then try drinking hot lemon water and honey, sucking on pure black licorice, not talking, singing or yelling, steaming the face with eucalyptus infusion, saunas and individualized homeopathic treatment. stop the vices like coffee, alcohol (even hot toddies do not work), inhaling random char, cold weather activities and ice.  commonly thought a good treatment is the salt water gargle, not so says research, as rarely is l’eau salee issued as deep as the voice box, but can help a good deal in pharyngitis and even provide temporary relief in tonsillitis.  wear a scarf in the future and go to bed early, party animal.

millie says i’m still cleansing after all these long days

October 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

if cleansing was a country song, i’d be singing it.  don’t operate heavy machinery but definitely write a ballad while cleaning out the pipes cuz poets benefit from that lucid feeling.  today’s menu: master cleanse, salt flush is getting visibly cleaner by the day,  black organic americano, a lot of vegetable broth, green tea and a sashimi dinner to end the master cleanse this time ’round which included miso soup, green salad with ginger dressing, delicious sashimi- mackerel, salmon, tuna, red snapper and a few scoops of white (gasp) rice with sesame seeds.  wasabi and soy sauce were in.

millie says keep on truckin’

October 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

ho hum.  now that my cleanse cashe is old and boring, i’m bored, you’re bored, I still have to cleanse more.  one more day of master cleanse. and salt flush, for those of you I confused: the recipe is 750 ml of warm water dissolving  2 heaping tablespoons of sea salt (the better the quality the salt, the more delicious your laxative)  agh.

today i find myself drinking more and more vegetable broth for it’s dryness as opposed to the chardonnay of maple syrup and lemon juice.  aghack.

keep on truckin’

millie says dont do what i did

October 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

sometimes when you’ve been detoxing for many years now, you start to get confident and wonder what would happen if you really messed it all up. how much can you possibly screw up a cleanse afterall. it’s your own body. some cleansing is better than no cleansing. so what happens if I\you start the master cleanse liquid diet for one day, and do two salt flushes back to back, only to chase it with a big turkey dinner and 2 kinds of pies. you salt flush turkey dinner, that’s what happens!

so after two days of livin’ it up, with a spicy pumpkin pie and a creamy pumpkin pie, a bumbleberry crisp, and whip cream enough to fill an oxygen tank, I’m back on my liquid diet. juice of lemons with equal parts grade C maple syrup, cayenne pepper, water. vegetable broth to break the sweet. diulax tea from Flora, plain water. some of you might say my whole week of cleansing last week didn’t count…but I beg your pardon!!

tomorrow salt flush: 750 ml of warm water with 2 tablespoons salt dissolved first thing in the morning- stay at home for 2 hours.

millie says master the cleanse performance

October 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

onto the 3 day fast, although  I’ll admit right now that today is a ‘prep’ day for the 3 day fast since I’m going to eat turkey dinner tomorrow.  it’ll be clean aka organic, but it will break the fast, which will cause me to have to do 3 more days of master cleansing afterwards.  notice how my cleansing is stretching further into the horizon because I would rather prolong it than make myself sad by skipping thoughtfully selected dinners such as thanksgiving.  most people would NOT prefer this, nor would I normally but to each her own.

today: drank the master cleanser which is: equal parts, juice from organic lemons, grade C or dark maple syrup (last tap has least sugar and highest concentration of minerals- don’t use any other), cayenne pepper to taste and water.  make as concentrated as I wish, although 2 tablespoons of each in a litre of water is the recommendation.  have been drinking it hot or room temp.  I’ve also had some straight shots of maple syrup, dulcolax tea, burdock tea, plain water, lemon water and an americano (black).

millie says onto the mono diet

October 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

so yesterday my blog went out prematurely.  sorry to those of you who noticed or care.  I wont bore you with the rest of the day but summarize it that I ate three organic apples, more almonds, tons of water, and then chose to eat everything from raw cheese to ginger snaps to carmellized onions on phyllo crust to beer and olives at my gastronomie friends’ place.  aw shucks.

will have to extend my cleanse for at least 3 more days because of my cheating ways.

as for today I’m back on a cleanse venge-ance with the mono diet.  the mono diet is a faster cleanse, closer to a fast, and a faster detox, while still able to enjoy solid food., kinda like a 6 month old.  the principle is that it gives the body a chance to cleanse even more by having to digest only 1-3 foods throughout a day or two.  I’ll do it for a day and then come back to apples and onions after the 3-day master cleanse is done.

all i’ve eaten today is pink grapefruit, avocado, steamed kale, separate and together.  the combo of the three is sweet.  avocado and grapefruit salad is my mother’s recipe and just divine, child.  I’ve drank water from steamed kale, dulcolax tea, plain water, hot lemon water.

millie says detox day 2

October 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

feeling better today.  even though day 1 was a bit of a bust, i’m still feeling like it’s day 3 more than day 2, which is nice, because the first three days are the hardest..until you get to the end.

note: all produce and grains are organic unless they come from a restaurant etc.  all fish is wild, so if I dont put organic in front of everything it doesn’t mean that it isn’t.  i’m trying to remember…

  • Breakfast:

2 cups water
1 cup Dulcolax tea (Flora)
boiled red river cereal, organic raisins, 1 tablespoon organic golden flax seeds, 2 spoons organic plain yogurt, 1/3 organic pomegranate

  • snack

handful of raw almonds
large mug of moroccan mint tea (Stash)

  • lunch

raw almonds, brown rice, french lentils, boiled organic beets, raw kale, raw olive oil salt
1/2 litre water with vitamin C powder

  • snack

1/3 pomegranate
moroccan mint tea refill
1 glass water

  • dinner
