millie says break box bind

colon cleanse colon cleanse,
on the shelf
how do I know if you’re worthy of m’self
purchasing, drinking and waiting on you
to do your mysterious job,
them say is good for you to do.

break box bind. the colon is the large instestine basicallly, 6 feet long moving waste from the small intestine to the rectum.  it gets clogged when we eat a diet poor in fibre and nouveau riche in the american goo and glue diet of white flower, burger sugar and coffee.  ideally it’s best to consume enough fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains all year round so that the colon doesn’t get bogged down with 10-15 pounds of fecal matter, it’s estimated the standard north american has, in addition, it’s wise to cleanse the colon during the spring and fall to keep the motor running.coffee enema

you don’t need a box to do a cleanse but they’re easy so here’s the breakdown of their components. 1) a liver cleanser consisting of encapsulated dandelion, beet, milk thistle, etc. which don’t work as well in dried form as in teas and tinctures, but will suffice.  2) fibre- usually psyllium, some may contain herbs such as cascara segrada, senna (a laxative) and rhubard to get the bowels moving.  candida cleanses will include bentonite clay, which is a purely indigestible mineral fibre, that cleans off debris from the sides of the colon, like all fibre does but in different form.  3) a recipe guide that will tell you which foods to eat on which days.  it is possible to get an entire detox program in one package, and it is possible to use no package at all, simply to follow the hypoallergenic or detox diet for a couple of weeks, take fibre and a bitter tea 2-3 times per day.  an epsom salt flush will also do the trick, and is usually encorporated into the master cleanse or lemonade fast.  then there’s always the warm coffee enema from the drug store or the nurse-required colonic package.  remember to replenish with probiotics after the cleanse is through.

millie says take a worrywort rather than a chill pill

take a worrywort rather than a chill pill. a wort is a herb named after the item it’s meant to heal such as liverwort (machantia), lungwort (pulmonaria) or for poisonous bites drink a snakewort (senega). while this method of naming is folkloric, most common in native medicine, a wort is a healing agent rather than a proliferator of such and such.

individual worts must be wisely consumed based on each of their merit not simply on titulage. St John’s Wort (hypericum) was identified by ‘doctrine of signatures’ or appearance giving way to its function. named after John the Baptist, whose feast day, June 24 th, occurs on european solstice when the plant is in full bloom resembles a halo with its five yellow petals and flowing red sap that symbolises the blood of the martyred saint.the name Hypericum means ‘greatest health’.

rather than worrying be proactive with your health as it could prevent the real health worries down the road or just take one of the many worryworts, including me with a grain of salt: hypericum, kava, melissa (lemon balm), passion flower, hops, catnip, chamomile, valerian, borage. and worry not.

millie says know this echinacea

know this E-C-H-I-N-A-C-E-A and buy wisely. one would think the way that echinacea is marketed that it helps to prevent colds. in actual fact, due to many variations in the species, plant part (aerial parts are leaf and stem. roots are under ground), delivery and dosage, it’s actually a trickier plant to consume properly than most others; knowing what, when and how to take echinacea is necessary for good results. the purple cone flower, member of the asteraceae is a great immune booster with mild anti viral properties due to phenol content. though known for warding off colds, it actually may be better used for convalescing; getting over that cold that seems to drag on’an’on or for those with a tendency for infections; cold, yeast, urinary, bronchial, etc. of the several species, angustifolia, pallida and purpura have been studied most. research is inconsistent on which ones work the best although the roots of pallida and angustifolia may ward off and the aerial parts of the purpurea plant may help recover faster; get a mixed tincture to cover all the bases. water extracts such as teas and dry capsules do not perform well for echinacea as the properties need to be diluted in alcohol for strong potency. Take 30 drops every 2-4 hours at the very first onset of cold for a couple of days. If the cold comes on anyway, stop until starting to feel better. if the malady lingers then take 30 drops every 3-4 hours for a week to raise immune system. don’t take it if auto-immune condition or on immune suppressing drugs. but most importantly do not waste money on shoddy echinacea or that’s how you’ll continue to feel. pooped.

millie says donta mixa meds-ah

donta mixa meds-ah…or at least know which meds not to mix. taking a birth control medication like alesse, the one that’s promoted to be the picture of perfection? or taking the occasional ativan to calm down? taking both? taking the occasional ativan, alesse, and an herbal supplement for energy or concentration like gingko or panax ginseng without the ok from some who knows what’s up? taking the occasional ativan, ginseng and/or ginseng, alesse and over-the-counter anti-histamine, have asked your doctor if it’s ok and they said they didn’t know?  doing the body good by drinking grapefruit a few times per week? can’t get an appointment to see your doctor? can’t get a doctor and have never heard of a naturopathic to ask their advice? having a few beers daily to unwind? can’t afford a naturopath? check it out for yourself. see 7 reasons why these things don’t mix by searching interactions here.

millie says cooks the reds

cook the reds. lycopene, a bright red phytochemical related to beta carotene (double-bond-vitamin A) has been singled out a quencher of radical oxygen species, surmounting those abilities in Vitamin E by 100 times. finally providing another benefit for mass-pasteurization of food, this juicey red pigment becomes bio-active only when cooked because it is not destroyed in boiling water, concentrates when water evaporates, binds to fibre and fat…so the more processed the tomato product theoretically the more lycopene available to the crimson-eater . while studies are up in the air as to its benefit for the following diseases: osteoporosis, cardiovascular, diabetes, cancer and male infertility, it remains a stable reason why red fruits and vegetables are encouraged eating material. though cooked watermelon pink grapefruit, pink guava and papaya might not be your thang, although delectable in jams, jellies and pasteurized juices, simmer red bell peppers and tomatoes in olive oil for assimilation is a strategic lycopene-heavy side dish or sauce. or have a cup of rosehip tea a day to keep the prostate at bay.

millie says practice makes good

practice makes good. making good choices, especially over the holidays can be a daily or hourly challenge on the to do list of dietary life. while restricting yourself is cruel, overindulging on empty calories day in day out will mess a body about, leaving nothing but regret and irritability to overcome at new year’s tone. move your health forward, now and all year ’round by resolving moment by moment to take the healthier choice like second helpings of green veggies and squash, the side salad, 1/2 a desert now and another half later, alternating a glass or two of water with the wine, the hazelnut not the jelly or mousse, the whole grain bread, a family walk, cranberries from scratch rather than a can, skipping a round of chocolates, the fish, the lentils…always choose the lentils for goodness sakes!!!

millie says level off the edge

level off the edge. irregular eating habits can really throw blood sugar, insulin and serotonin into a spin. not only does starvation sabotage productivity and performance it also sends mixed messages to hold onto as much permanent energy as possible (fat) and lose the mind. slow down the whirl by eating regular meals. Studies show that eating every 2-3 hours, including a healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks is an effective way avoid cravings, motor agitation, nervousness and emotional instability. a balanced one-plate meal consisting of protein (beans, sprouts, nuts, seeds, meat, fish, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese), complex carbohydrates (berries, greens, yellow-orange-red vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds) and healthy fats (cold water fish, olive, coconut, flax, nuts, seeds, avocado, nut butters) will provide a solid foundation for stress reduction. so buck up and eat.

millie says brassicas’ boasts boost

brassicas’ boasts boost. a daily bite from of a raw cruciferous vegetable has been shown to lower estrogen and androgen levels in both sexes due to a family of enzymes called aromatase inhibitors found in collards, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, brussel sprouts, etc. hormone related illnesses are exceedingly common in north american society but present in a variety of ways for men and women. in the XYs conditions such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, fibrous breasts and cancer, low progesterone and a stubborn battle of the bulge, though potentially genetic in nature can be reversed with a daily diet rich in indole-3 carbinols from raw cruciferous vegetables and phytoestrogens found in passion flower and chamomile tea, fermented soy products and flax seeds. likewise in the double Xs estrogen-linked illnesses such as prostate enlargement or cancer, low sperm count, breast tumors, abnormal testosterone levels can be crushed with regular cabbage crunch. Despite these positive benefits, this family of vegetables when eaten raw (best for cancer prevention) have been shown to be goitrogenic and can potentially slow down the uptake of iodine in those susceptible to low thyroid. So keep up with your individual health in mind when choosing the best method of preparation by going for 1 cup of raw in normal thyroid or 1/2 cup of lightly cooked but not nuked, for abnormal thyroid or history.

millie says use natural medicines first

use natural medicines first. due to policy and historical skepticism surrounding complementary and alternative medicine such as naturopathy, homeopathy and herbalism, these traditional medicines are socially saved for last. when mainstream medical treatment is no longer working, people turn to alternative medicines, prepared to try ‘ANYTHING’. though gentle medicine might work at this later stage it is not the ideal time to use them as the body is less sensitive burdened with chemical competition. natural medicines are free and easy wanderers inside the body’s palace, not having been condensed into active pharmaceutical compounds that hammer a physiological change. they gently improve a baseline health by replacing nutrition, regulating immune or energetically steering the body towards its natural state of health. the fewer meds used, the fewer meds needed.

millie says step out of mirror’s way

step out of mirror’s way today. although it can be convenient to fix one’s hair on the subway, check out the absence of green in between the whites on a spoon, and notice how you’ve aged in a pond, sometimes it’s less burdensome to avoid concentrating on every line, pore, blemish and expression and be carefree like back in the old country when you used to hop scotch and throw dirt balls, still in your stockings not giving a thought for days to how you presented to others. they thought your skin and hair looked shiny and healthy and your personality shone from the inside out anyway so when you get a chance to throw away mirror mirror on the wall….
