millie says switch from [coffee] beans to roots

switch from beans to roots, if only periodically. so march came in like a lamb, does it go out like a lion or out like a lamb all the same? either way it’s time to start thinking about a spring cleanse. for first time detoxifiers, symptoms can be harsh enough as it is without having to suffer through a caffeine withdrawal headache to boot. the more toxic you are the more initial detox symptoms may present with a headache, fatigue, bowel changes, skin eruptions, moodiness, the desire to stay in bed. advice is to c-c-c-come off the caffeine 3 days prior to the cleanse, used during the cleanse or just all year ’round. made from a variety of roasted roots and toasted grains such as chicory, beet, dandelion, rye, wheat, and barley, figs, acorns by themselves or combined for a malty flavored drink, they’re bitter, comforting and caffeine free. though all toasted products including coffee, may have acrylamide, a likely-carcinogen found in heat-processed carbohydrates, the bitter flavour provides a gentle liver detox in itself without the stimulant effects of coffee. grocery stores carry brand names such as krakus, inca, postum, bambu, Carp, caf-lib or for a gluten-free alternative pick up roasted chicory or dandelion root at health food stores. surprisingly delicious.

millie says level off the edge

level off the edge. irregular eating habits can really throw blood sugar, insulin and serotonin into a spin. not only does starvation sabotage productivity and performance it also sends mixed messages to hold onto as much permanent energy as possible (fat) and lose the mind. slow down the whirl by eating regular meals. Studies show that eating every 2-3 hours, including a healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks is an effective way avoid cravings, motor agitation, nervousness and emotional instability. a balanced one-plate meal consisting of protein (beans, sprouts, nuts, seeds, meat, fish, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese), complex carbohydrates (berries, greens, yellow-orange-red vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds) and healthy fats (cold water fish, olive, coconut, flax, nuts, seeds, avocado, nut butters) will provide a solid foundation for stress reduction. so buck up and eat.

millie says brassicas’ boasts boost

brassicas’ boasts boost. a daily bite from of a raw cruciferous vegetable has been shown to lower estrogen and androgen levels in both sexes due to a family of enzymes called aromatase inhibitors found in collards, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, brussel sprouts, etc. hormone related illnesses are exceedingly common in north american society but present in a variety of ways for men and women. in the XYs conditions such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, fibrous breasts and cancer, low progesterone and a stubborn battle of the bulge, though potentially genetic in nature can be reversed with a daily diet rich in indole-3 carbinols from raw cruciferous vegetables and phytoestrogens found in passion flower and chamomile tea, fermented soy products and flax seeds. likewise in the double Xs estrogen-linked illnesses such as prostate enlargement or cancer, low sperm count, breast tumors, abnormal testosterone levels can be crushed with regular cabbage crunch. Despite these positive benefits, this family of vegetables when eaten raw (best for cancer prevention) have been shown to be goitrogenic and can potentially slow down the uptake of iodine in those susceptible to low thyroid. So keep up with your individual health in mind when choosing the best method of preparation by going for 1 cup of raw in normal thyroid or 1/2 cup of lightly cooked but not nuked, for abnormal thyroid or history.

eat the french paradox. they smoke comme des cheminees but still have lower cancer, obesity and diabetes rates than North Americans possibly due to their diets. their petit dejeune which would never be fully consumed include an egg, a toast, une creme fraiche, croissant, un jus and provides protein, carbs and little bites of sugar rather than binge doses. butter, cheese, cream, meat grizzle, swigs of wine on a daily basis and are never sans un peu d’cafe. so what gives. the small-plated meals are rich in raw olive oil, lemon, fresh herbs, local seafood, free-roaming properly fed on grassy cud providing healthy lifestyles for the animals in turn producing better meat, milk, cheese and butter including unpasteurized healthy microflora, omega 3 and 6 fats and fewer hormones. antioxidants levels are high in the french diet as they consume stacks of fresh veggies, eat fruits for desert and drink local wines. they also take their stress in stride by leaving work pour un tout petit cafe a creme with friends. so dont smoke like them but eat like them. oui oui oui.

sleep in pitch dark. to regulate the endocrine system particularly for menstrual irregularities, cycles longer than 30, shorter than 26 days, trouble with fertility; sleep in absolute darkness so much so that a hand cannot be seen in front of the face. melatonin production increases with exposure to darkness during sleep which allows the endocrine system including hypothalamus, adrenal gland and ovaries (gonads) to recover from stress. only during the waxing stage, on the the night before, of and after the full moon should any light shine through which will help stimulate ovulation to occur during this time and therefore regulate cycles as they should according to the lunar calendar. if menstruation is occuring at full moon there is not need to switch over. children should not sleep with a night light as it disrupts depth of sleep. Howwwwl!

Wet your whistle. For new nursing moms it takes a few days for the milk to come in. Reduce stress with lots of lying down and sleeping, drink 2-3 litres of water per day and take the following drinks in order to increase milk supply: 1) Hops found in best concentration in a drink of Guinness beer does the trick to encourage milk let down. 2) To keep milk flowing nicely once it’s in, aromatic seeds like dill, fennel and fenugreek combined with 3) a bitter stimulant such as blessed thistle or milk thistle steeped in a tea have galactagogue effects. Parsley and sage but not rosemary or thyme, have weaning effects so it is best to avoid those in large quantity for duration of nursing.

Sit for 21, 30 or 40 days. Immediately post partum is a phase where Mama’s hormones are all crazy-like and a couple of scenarios may arise singularly or in combo. 1) Baby Moon is being in love wanting to cuddle, bond, protect, focus on baby. 2) Baby Blues is feeling a little down, moody, distant, labile, crying easily for two weeks following birth of the babe. To counteract these emotions in flux, ease into post natal stage by allowing Mom to tend to babe and herself at the exclusion of all else. Partner and others wanting to visit the baby can help clean, babysit other kids, cook or bring food and pay bills so that the mother-baby pair can bond without the added stress of bouncing back quickly during this vulnerable time. Rule of thumb for taking it easy: one week in bed, one week on bed, one week around bed can help prevent post partum depression.

Stimulate the sexes through senses. Pheromones given off by all animals are undetectable odors that increase blood flow to the sexual organs. Cinnamon buns, doughnuts and orange heat up men’s desire whereas chocolate and cranberry were downers. aww. For women licorice goodies and a combination of cucumber and licorice Allsorts ranked highest. Perfume and cologne work for neither sex and cherries, did not burst for women. odorific.
